Journalist ‧ Editor ‧ Translator
Cathy is a bi-lingual writer passionate about the environment, societal issues and current affairs. Growing up in Macau, where the cultures of East and West have co-existed for centuries at the edge of southern China, she has interacted and worked with people from various cultural backgrounds.
In 2019, she embarked on a new adventure, and headed to Switzerland. From her new home of Meilen, in the Swiss Goldcoast, she is a freelance journalist, editor and translator for publications and corporations in Asia.
As Deputy Editor of Ariana, a bilingual social justice magazine based in Hong Kong, she oversees the content and design of the publication in English and Chinese. She also contributes to Macao Magazine, a government publication and Macau Closer, a bi-lingual lifestyle and culture magazine. She also writes and translates content in English and Chinese for corporate clients such as Wynn Macau, Wynn Palace and Sands Resorts Macao.
Cathy is also an advocate for environmental protection and human rights. She is an activist at Amnesty International and a social media coordinator for its affiliated volunteer group - Amnesty Zurich English Group. Back in Macao, she is also a member of several eco-campaigns in Macau such as Macau for Waste Reduction, a group that encourages a ‘zero waste lifestyle’ and Breathing Room – Macau, which protects the endangered pink dolphins in the waters of Hong Kong and Macau.
Cathy also has a love for languages. Fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English, Cathy earned a Master’s degree in translation from the University of Macau. And now, she is learning German from a language school in Zurich. During her free time, she indulges herself in photography and painting with different creative mediums.
